About the book:-

A lost child. A broken marriage. A ticking time bomb.

Karen will do anything for her eight-year-old daughter, Scarlett. Even holding together a marriage that is way past broken.

So when Scarlett disappears from their rural home, Karen is one hundred percent focused on a single goal – finding her little girl as soon as possible.

And time is of the essence. Because Scarlett is profoundly deaf and would live in utter silence if it wasn’t for her high-tech hearing aids. Karen knows that within hours their batteries will run out, leaving her daughter even more isolated and vulnerable.

As the search for Scarlett intensifies, shocking secrets are revealed and Karen realises she may have to look for answers closer to home.

When the reason for Scarlett’s disappearance finally becomes clear, Karen finds she is living her own worst nightmare – her daughter is in deadly danger and time is running out.

Into The Woods – the shocking psychological thriller perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, K. L. Slater, Daniel Hurst.

My Review:-

This really was a five star read for me.  Karen is frustrated.  She had a career.  She had a life but now she is a full time mother.  Well not quite full time.  Karen writes a blog and is on the point of making the biggest breakthrough of her blogging career so she can be excused if her mind is not fully on her daughter Scarlett.  Can’t she?  When her husband Paddy comes home and discovers their beloved and profoundly deaf daughter is missing the cracks start to show.  What sort of mother is Karen?  What sort of relationship do Paddy and Karen have?  They both adore their daughter but do they adore each other?  And who is responsible for Scarlett’s disappearance?

I enjoyed that this story is told from the perspective of several people and also touches on the fickle world of social media and how quickly public opinion can turn.  I disliked Karen intensely, finding her self absorbed and a typical influencer, living out her life on social media but strangely felt a lot of sympathy for Paddy, not least for being married to Karen.

It is such a fast moving, thrilling story.  The hunt for little Scarlett before time runs out and there is a real twist in this tale.

My name is Charlie B and I have lived in the South of France for over 30 years with my husband Phil. At present we share our house with 6 cats (all rescue), our parrot Arthur (she's a girl) and our tank of tropical fish. I have always loved reading and belong to a writing group and a book club. So that I wouldn't feel so guilty sitting around and reading all day I decided to set up a book blog.
